Genius Loci

The Bex Arts Triennial, an open-air exhibition of contemporary art, returns once again to Szilassy Park between May and October 2026, almost 40 years since it was first held there. Visitors can explore the English landscape garden as they take a fresh look at the world around them and contemplate the relationship between art and nature.

The 16th Triennial, under the banner Genius Loci (Spirit of Place), is conceived as a celebration of its host site and the inimitable spirit that dwells there. Drawing on the power of contemporary art and the imperceptible forces that bind a location to its stories, memories and myths, the exhibition asks what happens when the landscape of the park – a place with a timeless quality – is no longer a mere backdrop but a protagonist in its own right, interacting directly with the works on display and the narratives they convey.

In this new guise, Szilassy Park serves as a laboratory for collective, creative experimentation; a space where the tension between imagined and altered nature, between romantic sensibility and social reality, plays out anew; and a fertile ground in which contemporary art and the natural landscape converge, new forms emerge and the imagination is set free.
