TAFAA – ALL I NEED NOTHING LESS NOTHING MORE

Speakers, sound cards, amplifiers, PC, cables, 2026

As they walk through the undergrowth, visitors hear flies swarming nearby. The sound moves closer, pulls away and suddenly intensifies, yet the insects never come into view. Although the buzzing is immediately recognisable, no one can pinpoint where it comes from. The work suggests a hidden presence without ever revealing it, as though the flies were circling an invisible carcass somewhere in the landscape.

Throughout the exhibition, these fictional flies follow the imagined timeline of a body decomposing out of sight. No carcass is ever shown: it exists solely as an acoustic construct suggested by the artificial swarm.

With TAFAA – ALL I NEED NOTHING LESS NOTHING MORE, Chloé Delarue deliberately separates what we hear from anything we can physically identify. Generated artificially and broadcast through concealed speakers, the sound creates a presence perceptible only through the flies’ supposed movements and shifting sound patterns.

The result is a real-time sound sculpture that explores a disturbing disconnect between audio and visual perception. The buzzing becomes a kind of refrain – an evolving pattern with no identifiable origin, a synthetic replay of decomposition without any visible source.

Chloé Delarue (F, b. 1986*) lives and works in Switzerland.
